One thing that saved me during freshman year dorm room shopping was ordering as much as possible online. It made it so much easier to see all my options and shop from my bed, instead of having to go out and get to the stores.
With that in mind, I’ve made an all-in-one amazon dorm essentials guide so you know exactly what you need to be ordering!

shower caddy
With shared dorm bathrooms, a quality shower caddy is a must. It’s completely up to you which you prefer, whether its a mesh shower caddy or a plastic one.
I personally have a mesh one, but both work great!
amazon echo
This is such a great thing to have in a dorm room. You can use an echo for playing music, setting timers, and more. If you are going to get one of these, definitely communicate with your roommate because you only need one in the room.
desk lamp
Especially if you have a roommate, a desk lamp is super helpful when one person wants to go to sleep and the other has some more work to get done.
Plus, it’s another cute decoration that can make your room look perfect!
laundry hamper
A good laundry hamper is so important in a dorm room. This one is super cool because you have an actual hamper for your room, plus a bag that you can take out when you need to bring it to the laundry room in your dorm.
It also comes in gray or beige, so you can pick whichever is going to match the rest of the decorations in your room.
air purifier
Super small dorm rooms lead to a hell of a lot of dust. Everywhere. Getting yourself an air purifier is going to save you from getting sick every other week in college.

If you are someone who likes doing work from your bed, a lap desk is a great tool to make it easier to get everything done while staying super comfy.
This one is super nice and has a pocket for your phone, in addition to a comfy arm rest.

For tight rooms that might not have the space for a night table, try getting this bedside storage caddy. This is perfect for holding all your night time essentials and won’t take up too much space in the room.

Dorm rooms are notorious for having literally no outlets. My dorm room has a single outlet on either side of the room, which was definitely not enough. In addition to long extension cords, extra-long chargers for your devices are also super helpful!

Depending on where you are going to college, a fan might be super important to have in your room.
Even if you don’t think it gets too hot and even if you have an air-conditioned dorm room, you are still going to want to have a little fan in your room.

For some amazing extra storage in your dorm, try getting a desk hutch. These take up some space on the desk but give you SOOO much extra storage for all your essentials and some decorations too.
Plus, they make your room look really impressive.
handheld vacuum
A handheld vacuum is perfect for a small room that doesn’t have any storage space for a full-size vacuum. This is perfect to clean up any dirt and messes in your dorm.
kindle
If you like reading, a kindle is a must when you go to college. Depending on your school’s library system, you may not have access to some of the books you want to read. They have all the nonfiction and academic books you could ever want, but sometimes don’t have fun fiction reads!
In that case, having a kindle is so nice. You basically have an endless supply of books right in your hands.
speaker
Make sure you go to college with a mini speaker. This is so helpful when you are having friends in your room and want to play some music.
mattress topper
Let’s be honest, most dorm beds are cheap and uncomfortable. Make your bed actually feel comfortable with a quality mattress topper.

As I said before, dorm rooms definitely do not have enough outlets for everything you need to plug in. And even if there are enough, they are never in the right spot.
Solve your problems by buying a few extension cords for everything you need to plug in. My rule of thumb is to buy two: one for the night table area and one for the desk area.
storage cart
A storage cart is so helpful in a small college dorm. You can use these as a night table, in the bathroom if you have your own, or anywhere you need some extra storage.
They don’t take up too much space and give you so much extra storage.
fairy lights
Fairy lights make such a cute decoration in your dorm room that doesn’t cost too much money. They are so easy to put up and will make your room look so much more impressive.
water bottle
A water bottle is one of the most important dorm amazon essentials you can buy from this list. You basically can’t go a day in college without a quality water bottle.

Getting a brand-new set of matching hangers for college will make your closet look so much more organized.
I love fabric hangers because your clothes will almost never fall off, so it keeps things a lot cleaner in your closet.

For all the coffee lovers out there, a mini Keurig is perfect for your dorm room. It’s small enough that it won’t be annoying in your tiny room but still gets the job done.
