As I am searching and planning for my dorm room this year, I found that there was a lack of inspiration out there. Pinterest is extremely overwhelming and a lot of blog articles just tell you random ideas to decorate.
As a way to help you (and myself!), I created a super easy, all-in-one guide to dorm room themes. I am covering a bunch of the most popular dorm room color schemes, with inspo photos and links to copy some super cute rooms!
This post is all about dorm room inspiration!
Black and white

Black and white is such a classy dorm room theme and looks super impressive! Adding bits of gray in there too also makes the room look so much better!
I love how simple the decorations in this room are, yet it still looks absolutely amazing!
Blush

Blush with accents of some neutral colors makes such a cute dorm theme. Blush looks great with black and white, gray, or beige.
This is also a super easy color to match a lot to. You can have a bunch of different shades of pink/blush throughout the room and they all complement each other nicely. Silver and gold are also great accents with this color as well.

Yellow

Although it’s a little unconventional, yellow makes for a super fun dorm theme. You can get so creative with this and add little splashes of yellow in your wall decor, carpet, and pillows. This way, it doesn’t look like the sun exploded on your room, but blends well with some neutral colors like white or gray.
Plus, yellow is just such a happy color and it makes the room so much fun to come back to after a long day.
Blue and gray

Blue and gray is a classic dorm room theme, and for good reason. So many products, comforters, and pillows come in these colors, making it super easy to put together your room.
Light blue and gray also look super cute together. They are the perfect combination of fun and color mixed with a classy look.
Navy and blue

Sticking with the blue theme, you can also do navy and light blue, with accents of gray or black. This is another classy look that still includes a bunch of colors.
Recently, navy has been a super popular color, so a bunch of products will come in navy and make shopping super easy.
Purple and gray

Gray and purple is such a cute look and extremely easy to put together. If you haven’t gotten the memo already, gray/black/white with splashes of a color is a super easy route to go when it comes to dorm room themes.
Combining color with neutrals gives your room the perfect balance between being fun and colorful and still looking respectable.
Boho

If you aren’t a fan of gray, try going super neutral with a boho theme. This room will have tons of white, beiges, and some sage green.
This room is perfect for anyone looking for something light, white, and minimalistic! It is such a clean look and can help de-stress when you come back to your room at the end of the day.
Neutrals

Similar to the boho theme, you can go with a neutrals aesthetic as well. This is more white and beige, and less green than boho.
This color scheme is also super clean looking.
All white

The last dorm room inspiration idea I’ve got for you is an all white theme. This has been a hot topic on different college social media groups about whether or not white bedding is a bad idea.
The overall consensus seems to be that white is super easy for bedding, mainly because if it gets any stains on it, it is super easy to bleach clean.
Obviously, it is going to depend on your lifestyle. If you are expecting to be in your bed a lot in dirty clothes or eating food in your bed, white may not be the best way to go. However, if your bed is strictly for sleeping, you shouldn’t have a problem with the white blankets and sheets.
Mix and match
As a bonus dorm room inspiration idea, try mixing and matching a few different aesthetics. Try to keep a color scheme to under 3 colors, but get creative and have fun with what you choose.
You get to completely recreate your living space from the ground up, so choose wisely, but have fun with it! You will most likely be living in it for at least a few years, so you wanna make sure you like it!
