This post is all about dorm room makeup organization!
Before you can start organizing your makeup, you need to decide where you want to store your products.
In a dorm room, you basically have three options: makeup bag, desk drawer or the surface of a desk. Let me give you a little info about each place before I go into how to organize each location.
Deciding where to store your makeup
Makeup bag
If you travel home a lot, this is a good option for you. While it seems inconvenient, a makeup bag is helpful if you don’t do your makeup in the same spot everyday.
Another added bonus of using a makeup bag is that everything can be put away and out of sight. After you do your makeup in the morning, the bag can go in a drawer or under the bed.
Desk Drawer
The desk drawer is another good option if you don’t want your makeup out in the open all the time.
While you obviously cannot move your makeup around as easily as you can with a makeup bag, a desk drawer organizes all of your products really well and keeps them out of sight.
It also makes it extremely convenient when you are doing your makeup everyday at your desk.

Desk Surface
The third place you can store all of your makeup products is on the desk surface. This is the most noticeable place to put your makeup because it will always be out.
Your desk surface is definitely the easiest option when it comes to actually doing your makeup every day
How to organize your makeup in each location
Now that you know about each place to store your makeup, you should decide where you want to put everything.
If you have, you can just skip to the info about the place you chose. If not, just keep on reading to learn how to organize all three locations!
Makeup Bag
Organizing in a makeup bag is pretty self-explanatory: you basically just need a makeup bag (no surprise haha!). This is one of those items I would suggest splurging on if you have the money.
A quality makeup bag goes on a long way. Especially the ones that have pockets specific for certain makeup products really help to keep everything organized.
Another tip when buying a makeup bag is purchasing something that you have room to grow in. If you can, don’t buy something that just barely fits your makeup.
Find a makeup bag that will have extra space so your stuff is not crammed in. That way, you have the room to move things around.

Desk drawer
With a drawer, you are definitely going to need some dividers or organizers to make sure everything isn’t rolling around.
There are so many different organizers you can buy to organize in the drawer. If you don’t find any makeup specific organizers, even desk supply organizers work great as well.

I find it a lot easier to buy smaller, individual organizers compared to one big organizer with multiple sections. That way, you can customize to the size of the drawer and what you need to fit in it.

Desk Surface
If you are choosing this location, you best bet here is to find some nice acrylic organizers. These make your space look nicer and organize all of your products really well.
When buying, try to find ones that utilize vertical height so they don’t take up too much space. Stacking organizers are also great because they take up less space as well.
Combining multiple locations
Another option for your dorm room makeup organization is to store your products in multiple places. While I would not suggest having random things here and there, it might be helpful to split up your stuff.
That way, you can better maximize your space.
For example, maybe you could keep your everyday products on your desk, and have less used products in a makeup bag. By doing this, you can have your most used products accessible without taking up too much space.
Once you decide how you want to organize all of your makeup, remember that it’s okay to switch things up if something isn’t working. Try out different locations and see what works the best with your routines and lifestyle.
