When I was planning for my freshman year dorm room, the one thing I knew I needed to figure out first was what I was doing under the bed. In such a small room, under the bed is one of the biggest places you have to organize.
However, with such a big space, it can be really easy for things to become a mess down there. Buying the right organizers is SO DAMN IMPORTANT for under your bed.
This post is all about under bed dorm storage!
cube shelves
These are a super easy and practical way to make use of that under bed dorm storage space. With cube shelves, you can either leave them open or use cute baskets to store all your stuff.
The great thing about this storage option is that you can use them for all four years of college. Unlike other organizers that are strictly for under the bed (which you then can’t use after your 1-2 years in a dorm), you can use cube shelves in both a dorm and an apartment.
These shelves are also great to store stuff in the front, and then hide larger things in the back, such as a suitcase or extra linens.
school-issued dresser
If you want to free up some space around the room, you can put the dresser you get from the school under the bed. Most dorm beds will loft high enough for you to do this, or you can get bed risers to make it high enough to fit the dresser.
These are usually not as deep as the bed, so you can also fit a suitcase or other things behind the dresser as well.
mini fridge
Like the dresser, if you want more space in your room, you can also put your mini fridge under your bed. This is a super convenient spot that keeps it out of the way of everything else.
plastic drawers

Plastic drawers are a lifesaver for under your bed in a dorm room. These can hold so many clothes and keep them all nice and organized.
Plus, like many of the other organizers, you will have room behind the drawers for other storage.
shoe rack
Under the bed is a great place to store all of your shoes. These are most likely big and bulky, so having somewhere they can go is essential to keeping your dorm room organized.
If you are looking to get a shoe rack, these are two really great options that will keep all your shoes contained under your bed.
shoe ottoman
If you are looking for a more hidden option to store your shoes, use a shoe ottoman! These things are absolutely amazing in keeping all your shoes organized, hidden, and out of the way.
Plus, the ottoman doubles as extra seating for when friends come over.
storage trunk
For a cute and practical under bed dorm storage idea, use a storage trunk. These things are so big and store so much in your dorm room! This is a great place for extra linens, out-of-season clothes, and more.
storage bin with wheels
I always recommend getting organizers with wheels for under the bed. It may not seem like it, but there is so much space under your dorm bed and you don’t want things getting lost down there!
These storage bins are both really great options that are super convenient to access. This is a great place for commonly worn clothes, shoes, or whatever else you want to keep organized and close by!
flip top storage bin
If you want to keep your stuff closed, try these flip-top storage bins. This is a really great way to keep all your clothes or other items contained under your bed. Plus, they are super cute!
utility cart
If your bed is lofted pretty high, you can fit a utility cart underneath. I always recommend that every college student has some sort of cart like this somewhere in their dorm room.
Under the bed is the perfect place to store it. These carts seriously hold so much and help to keep a bunch of little things like toiletries, hair appliances, electronics, and more super organized.
extra seating
Again, this will only really work for a dorm bed lofted pretty high. However, if that is the case, under the bed is the perfect place for extra seating! You can get a small foldable chair like this, a futon, or whatever else you want to have an extra place to sit for yourself or friends.
dog bed
Ok, hear me out… this one might sound crazy, but if you’ve got a little corner of extra space under your bed, try getting a dog bed and body pillow. You can use this space as a cute little spot to relax, read a book, watch TV, or whatever else you like to do.
You can even decorate it with some posters, fairy lights, and pillows to make it a super cute space.
tension rod
If you are in need of extra hanging space, you can actually hang a tension rod under your bed and get an entirely extra closet!
For this, you just need an extra long tension rod that will cover the entire distance of the bed. Then, you can use it for overflow clothes, to hang up some jackets, or to plan your outfits for the week.
bed skirt
For whatever you choose to put under your dorm bed, if you don’t want it all out in the open for everyone to see, the easiest way to hide it is with a bed skirt. These are great because they make the room look super cute and then all your under bed items are hidden.
